Why September is the perfect time for a family holiday on Mallorca

September is one of the finest times to visit us at Ca’s Saboners on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca. Autumn is in the air, but the sun is still shining, and it’s still warm enough to swim (for a while yet). The kids are back at school, and everyone is back at work, which means quieter beaches and streets. Plus, the air is slightly cooler and fresher, making it one of our favourite months to explore the island.
Enjoy everything Palma Nova has to offer!
It may be the end of summer, but you’d never know from the daily sunshine, blue skies and glistening sea. It’s the perfect time to make the most of the island’s beaches while they are more peaceful. Palma Nova beach is beautiful all year round, but in September it really shines.Enjoy a morning on the sand where you can snorkel, paddleboard or even hire a kayak. After, enjoy a paella lunch at Il Chiringo before heading home for a siesta. The afternoon? You could always go back to the beach, explore Palma Nova or have a round of mini golf at Golf Fantasia.
Explore the island’s capital of culture
The mercury has dropped, so it’s time to explore further afield. First stop: Palma, the capital of Mallorca and the Balearic Islands, which is easily reached by car or bus. There is so much to do and see here. Wander the network of pretty streets lined with majestic houses and browse the endless independent, high street and luxury shops. Art and culture lovers can check out the countless museums and galleries. The magnificent La Seu Cathedral is, of course, one of the main attractions. This architectural masterpiece overlooking Parc de la Mar and the coast is a great place to learn more about the city’s rich history. Palma is home to incredible cafés, bars and restaurants serving all kinds of cuisines, so you’ll never go hungry.
Get out and about in nature
Head to the mountains! The Serra de Tramuntana begins in the southwest of the island and forms its backbone, running all the way to the northeast. Bearing in mind that the sun is still strong in the middle of the day, you could try an early morning hike to explore the island’s natural beauty. There are plenty of walks in Calvià, close to Palma Nova or venture to the picture-perfect villages of Valldemossa, Sóller and Deià. Always remember to pack plenty of water and sunscreen—even in September!
Mallorca truly is the best place to be at the start of autumn. We look forward to welcoming you so that you can enjoy September with us. See you soon
