A taste of Mallorca: local food markets you need to visit in 2025

One of the best ways to get to know a place is through its markets. Always buzzing with local people and produce, a market, especially a food market, is always a sign of culture, community and cuisine.
Mallorca’s generations-old food markets showcase the island's culinary roots, where you’ll find fresh seasonal produce—and people coming together. Here are some of our top food markets to discover new and old flavours.
Andratx market - Tradition meets taste in the southwest
Every Wednesday, this bustling food market takes place in the historic town centre and along the pretty connecting streets. Local farmers and artisans gather to show off their colourful wares, from seasonal fruits and vegetables. During spring, expect asparagus, ruby-red strawberries and glossy cherries. In summer, plump tomatoes, plums, watermelons and grapes. You’ll also find artisanal gastronomic offerings like local cheeses, olives oils and olives, an abundance of wines from local bodegas and “sobrassada”, a traditional cured pork sausage seasoned with spicy paprika.
Santa Maria del Camí market - A sensory feast in central Mallorca
Held every Sunday from 9 am to 2 pm in Plaça Nova, a large square where rows of stalls sell everything from textiles to jewellery and, of course, produce from the fields. You’ll discover sun-ripened organic fruit and vegetables, the usual artisanal products like gourmet cheese and meats for an authentic taste of island life and local delicacies like “ensaïmada”, a swirling spiral-shaped pastry filled with something sweet like cream, chocolate or pumpkin jam. This market can be particularly busy so we recommend getting the train from Palma.
Mercat del Olivar - Palma’s lively indoor market to shop and eat
Looking for a food market where you can eat too? Mercat del Olivar in the city centre has everything under one roof. The island’s largest and most famous indoor market sells fruit, vegetables, cheese, olives, fish and meat, plus there's an area dedicated to casual dining. There are many different tapas bars, where you’ll have to fight your way to the counter to order—but this is all part of the fun. There’s also a sushi bar for something different.
Santa Catalina - Trend meets tradition in Palma
This upmarket market shares a formula with Mercat del Olivar. You can also buy fish from the fishmongers and pay for it to be grilled at one of the busy bars. There’s plenty of tapas here and more fancy choices like oysters and champagne for those special occasions.
Mercat 1930 - Palma’s sociable waterfront food hall for food and drinks
This chic indoor market on the Paseo Maritimo offers a diverse range of international cuisines, tapas and cocktails. Whether you and your friends fancy sushi, tacos or something more traditional, this is the perfect place to dine in a casually stylish setting.
Hungry? We bet you are. We hope you’ve got your wicker baskets at the ready to shop the island’s most vibrant markets and savour the finest local flavours.
