Exploring Mallorca in winter: off-season adventures for couples and families

A Majorcan winter is not how you might picture the coldest season of the year. There is sunshine instead of snow and lighter jackets in place of woolly hats, scarves, and gloves. The temperatures can drop but the blue skies are almost always overhead—300 days of the year, in fact. This makes winter one of the best times to visit Mallorca. The island is quieter out of season, which lends itself to activities and adventures that make you feel like it is your own.
Mallorca in winter - See Mallorca on two wheels
From our base in Palmanova, in the island’s southwest, there really is a whole world to explore. Mallorca is a cycling hotspot and during winter, it’s cooler, and even better. Hire a bike and helmets and get out around the local area. Try a route to El Toro which is 8 kilometres west along the coast and enjoy the views along the way. Or for more countryside scenery, you could ride inland to the pretty little village of Capdellà, where you can stop for a drink and something traditional to eat. Always stay safe on the roads and take bicycle lanes where possible. Always check the weather forecast, too.
Mallorca in winter - Climb a mountain
For active couples and families with older children who are really into exploration, we suggest putting on your hiking boots and getting out into the great outdoors. For extreme adventurers, Puig de Galatzó is one of the island’s tallest mountains with a 1026-metre summit. Note: this 5-hour trail is not for small children and the final part involves a more challenging climb to the peak, where you might even see snow. There are more gentle hiking routes in and around the Tramuntana mountain range or east along the coast to Bendinat, for example. Don’t forget to pack everything you need, including water, warm clothes, and a picnic.
Mallorca in winter - Up in the air
If you’re looking for an exhilarating adventure or to celebrate a special birthday, how about a helicopter trip? Up to three people can have the experience of a lifetime in a chopper that takes off in Palma, giving you a bird’s eye view of the island. Soaring across the blue skies and taking in the island’s natural beauty from a different perspective is the perfect adrenaline rush. You can choose from a 10-minute to one-hour ride to remember—it doesn’t get more daredevil than that.
Ca’s Saboners is looking forward to seeing you in Spring 2025!
