5 family-friendly hikes in Mallorca

One of the best ways to explore the island is on foot. In Calvià, the municipality where we are based, there are trails ideal for all the family, but we recommend discovering other parts of the island too. Always be prepared: check the weather forecast is good and not too hot; wear suitable footwear and clothes, including layers and sunscreen; pack well—hats, water and food. And enjoy yourselves! Here are our five beginner-friendly trails for families.
Walk #1: Palmanova to Magaluf
Our first route begins right here in Palmanova. This reasonably flat 40 minutes-or-so coastal walk offers beautiful views over the Mediterranean Sea, which you can dip in along the way. There are also playgrounds en route to make the kids even happier. We recommend walking there, stopping for a swim and some lunch, and then walking back. Here are some of our favourite beach-front spots to eat in Magaluf.
Walk #2: Paguera to Es Camp de Mar
This easy there-and-back-3-kilometre trail takes around 50 minutes. Start in Paguera on Carrer d'Ana Gayà Mayol and wander through the green forested valley to Camp de Mar, a crescent-shaped sandy beach overlooking a restaurant apparently floating on water. Don’t forget to take your swimming gear for a celebratory swim upon arrival. You could even book a table to treat everyone to lunch.
Walk #3: Fonts Ufanes
In Mallorca’s northeast, this natural wonder is a spring that springs to life after heavy rains and flows through the forest to the Sant Miquel river. To reach the springs, follow the path that begins near Campanet, a pretty village just past Inca that is also known for its caves. The well-marked 3-kilometre loop takes around 50 minutes and is a pretty walk perfect for the whole family, including small children. There’s a market in Campanet every Tuesday and Saturday morning, so why not make a day of it?
Walk #5: Puig Mayor and the Cúber Reservoir
This final walk is located in the famous Serra Tramuntana in the northwest of the island. This is an easy amble around the reservoir at the foot of the highest peak on the island, Puig Mayor, which rises to almost 1500 metres above sea level. Follow the trail around the water and past wildlife like cows, sheep and the occasional goat. Ideal even with a pushchair.
So there we have it: 5 walks for you and the family to enjoy here in Mallorca. And there are plenty more. You could also explore Bellver forest and castle on foot, or walk around Palma’s Old Town and over to Portixol or beyond. There are all kinds of walks, from natural to urban, depending on what you want to see and do. That’s the beauty of Mallorca.
