Enjoy a day out in Palma

June 26 2023

Mallorca’s capital city is a place of such incredible beauty and historical diversity. There’s so much to see and do in the Balearic capital, that it can often feel overwhelming to plan your day trip, which is why we’ve created this comprehensive Palma guide for you.

First stop: La Seu Cathedral

The second you approach Palma, whether by air, sea or land, the first thing you’ll see is the impressive La Seu Cathedral, which towers over the city. This masterpiece of gothic architecture is nothing short but a wonder, with its grand rose window – one of the largest in the world that out of 1,236 pieces of stained glass. Nearby, you’ll find other important historical sights, such as the Almudaina palace and the Arab baths.

Next stop: The old town

There’s just something so romantic about winding your way through the cobbled streets of Palma’s old town. Here, you’re greeted by shops, galleries, hidden cafés, churches and more. One of our top tips is a visit to the Mercat de l’Olivar, which is Palma’s largest market for food and other artisanal goods. You can choose your fish fresh from the bar and eat it right there.

Third stop: walk around the marina

One of the things that sets Palma apart from other European cities is its proximity to the sea. Which is why, during your visit to the city, you have to make the most of its marina with a coffee by the sea while admiring the beautiful yachts moored here. There are also some beautiful sandy beaches just across from the marina, where you can soak up those much-needed sunrays.

Last stop: Castell de Bellver

Once you’re done with Palma’s old town, it’s time for one last stop before heading ‘home’ to Cas Saboners. Take the car out of the parking and put ‘Castell de Bellver’ into your GPS. This 14th-century royal fortress is surrounded by fragrant pine woods and boasts an interesting museum and superb views over the Bay of Palma.

We know it has been a long day and there is –indeed- much more about Palma you could go discover if you have more time, but for now we think you have had a lovely impression about the vibrant capital city of the Balearic Islands.
